Rural Teacher Training Program
In rural Sichuan, especially in the regions hardest hit by the earthquake a year ago, teachers have no opportunity to leave their remote villages for training. These teachers often are required to teach a variety of subject areas to as many as 500 students at a time at different educational levels There is a great need to provide additional training to these hard working teachers so they can better serve the children who rely on them for their entire education.
In the past 5 years, the Chinese government has sponsored 20-25 teachers for one year for further intensive training and development in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. About 1 in every 300 teachers who apply for entrance into these valuable training programs is accepted. Consequently, rural teachers without sophisticated skills and the ability to submit superior applications are not accepted.
Golden Courage International is committed to sponsoring at least two rural teachers in remote areas in 2009-2010 who otherwise would apply for training but have little chance to pass the vigorous tests and challenging application process. In addition, GCI will provide leadership by bringing experienced teachers from Beijing, other cities as well as other countries to these rural areas for on the ground training. Further, GCI will initiate the process of collaboration between different agencies to improve and update the educational curriculum.
